Honestly, I feel like this fear is all marketing. AI isn't even AI. It's just usually referring to LLMs... which are just piles of linear algebra. Is a Shaggoth just a pile of matrix multiplication functions? That's not exactly beyond our understanding. You know what is beyond our understanding? Us. We are. It's us. The monster is us. The ones who trained it. The ones who provided all the training data. We're the monster. But, is that our nature? No. We're not fundamentally monsters. We just fed LLMs monstrous content that we produced. Content created for extracting attention and wealth from the user. These venture capitalist fake-AI projects aren't making a Shaggoth. They're just reproducing the language and logic of capitalism. The thing that makes us monsters is the same thing that makes LLM monsters.
