Amazing interview. Geoffrey Hinton has always been one of the thinkers who inspired me the most.
In fact, when I wrote my book ‘Sapient, the Rise of Artificial Intelligence’, I created a character — Professor Mendalayus — directly inspired by him, the mind behind the Ethical Code for AI in the story.
My book explores exactly the themes discussed in this video: how a global oversight body, built by national governments, works together with a superintelligent AI called Sapient to regulate the use, functions, and impact of artificial intelligence.
It also imagines a society where every person has their own personal AI superintelligence — a companion designed to rebalance social and economic inequality and help individuals navigate an increasingly complex world.
Watching this interview reminded me of the ideas that pushed me to write Sapient six years ago.
