I didn't expect this video from you! ( rambling wall of text incoming lol) I'm an artist myself, when ai image generation and ai chat bots were just starting to become popular, I was both scared and excited about it. Admittedly, I used it a bit back then as an extension of my own art, to talk with my own characters I mean, and sometimes to see how the ai would interpret my drawings. I don't know how much it's changed, I'm not the biggest ai user nor fan, but back then I got tired of it immediately because the ai could never evoke what I was intending to evoke with my own creative outputs. So for example, I could write the perfect descriptions of my ocs and draw pictures of them, write out example dialogue but I'd still get sick of the ai, it was never good at doing what I did, it was never good at portraying what I expected to be portrayed. I do think that ai has a place in this world, I mean, it'd be silly of me to expect it to go away anytime soon, but I think that it will not play an important role in being a sole creator of "artworks" or anything like that, sure it's funny to see an image or meme created by it, I understand the entertainment factor of it I'm not blind, but I will always find myself preferring human artists. Unfortunately a lot of people don't have a sane stance on the topic of ai art, a lot of people I've personally run into with obsession over ai images and actual hatred of real artists have a sort of entitlement towards things they deem entertaining or aesthetically attractive, I don't think it's really crazy that the ai conversation has turned so political in that case either. I guess the implications of ai becoming a thing already were, especially considering who the biggest proprietors of it are, I'm disappointed that it's already got such a grip on the value of art and labor already. I've seen some of my favorite fellow artists who turn to ai generation or will say they feel like their art has no place in our day. Idk, it's scary, I doubt it will really replace artists but the way things are going I don't think there aren't people who wouldn't try to make that the case. More personally from me: It's super heartbreaking being discouraged from creating art at every turn, even before ai art I got told a lot as a kid that my art was worthless (by family as well), I'm going to art school soon, totally without the expectation of getting a career in art and just entirely for myself which is a huge privilege. I think about how ai "artists" say theyre just making it accessible and it doesn't make sense, you just need the will to create, you just need to actually *love* art. Not just want an image, which is entirely separate from being an artist.
