It's really super weird being on the fence and having a nuanced opinion about AI. I'm pro-AI in some cases, because I'm a web dev and the Cursor editor definitely helps me remove the absolute slog from my daily work and I can now concentrate on doing more interesting things. I've generated a few bopper songs on music generation sites. But on the other hand, I'm completely against any corporate stealing of artist's work, I'm against what Coca-Cola is doing to their Christmas videos. I'm so against AI destroying artist's livelihoods, I'm going to go buy one of your posters right now and proudly display it somewhere visible. I know, in my heart, that the biggest issue here is always capitalism. I'm sure if you didn't need to live on art to eat you'd still be making art, and perhaps in a case like that, the "theft" would matter a bit less. But then, if that was the reality (imagine a world with UBI), we wouldn't have people stealing art and claiming it's their own in the first place, because the only real reason to do that is to profit from it. I know, I know, it's an unpopular opinion. I respect the art and the artists (the real ones) but I also think it wouldn't be this much of a debate if y'all could just live and do your art without monetary requirements.
