I'm going to be honest; I think this guy and people like him are, ironically, some of the biggest believers in "AI" as it exists right now. He's claiming this extreme standpoint, but that standpoint is rooted in this deep belief that the current AI models actually can reason and know and learn and develop in a way we view as consciousness. I think that's completely bonkers. LLMs are not AI; calling them that is pure marketing. These things are extremely complicated probability models. That don't know anything: they have no basis to evaluate truth. They have no true intelligence. If a parrot speaks to you, you don't immediately assume it must have a human level intellect. These AI are a danger in that they are widespread, misused by people who have no regard for the value of human lives, and are being given authority and power they have no right nor ability to wield. All the ails of "AI" are results of human decisions and abuse. It has nothing to do with machines. This methodologies with never create a super intelligence, due to the fundamental nature of how it's built. Imagining otherwise I like think that if you strike a soup of amino acid with electricity enough times you'll create monocellular life. The timescale just doesn't work out.
