The tesla autopilot can be quite good, but still flawed. When I was in America it helped navigating unfamiliar road rules and knowing where to go. Even tested the “summon” function which worked well. It was surprising how closely the self driving function still makes you focus on the road - almost got locked out because I didn’t apply enough pressure to the steering wheel in the short time limit it gives. It did, however, make a few mistakes, and I had to immediately disengage autopilot and drive manually to avoid swerving. Overall, it has the potential to be good, but the technology is not quite there yet. The Waymo on the other hand — dear god those things are such jerks on the road. They don’t have the common sense or logic that a human driver has and therefore they will just stop anywhere along a road to pick someone up, regardless of traffic or conditions. At least an uber driver would find somewhere reasonable to stop, even if it’s a bit annoying for the customer. I don’t know how Americans put up with all of these things.
