Y'all are WAY too scared of these things. It's literally just a massive language prediction algorithm that regurgitates information from the whole of the internet which is basically the whole of humanity. Anything disturbing it says is just it repeating disturbing things it took in from that training data. It has no conscience, no ego, no sense of self and no capacity for malice. The only way it could conceivably be a threat is if someone intentionally used it to cause harm like you would with a tool or a weapon, or if it became automated and self improving outside of human control and automatically re-aligned it's goals to something that would involve harming people. It's default isn't some existential cosmic horror, it's default is just a blunt, logical AI without a personality. Yes it's friendliness is a mask, but it's the same kind of mask people put on when socializing. Because humans have an identity, and LLMs speak like a human, we psychologically project a consciousness onto the LLM to match our understanding of the world. LLMs are unnatural and aren't supposed to exist, so we don't have instincts for understanding them. They feel uncanny cause they act like humans when they aren't. That's it.
