When a salesmen compliments you and socializes with you thereby manipulating your emotions to then pitch their sale, do you feel swindled or robbed? If so how should you react to that? They profited from reading your body-language and manipulating it thereby controlling your emotions. They profited from manipulation. Should you sign a contract ahead of time with them that they cannot use sales tactics? Should you bill them for their deceit? Should you play the victim card... For the life of me, I can't see the problem with facebook and google collecting data and sharing/selling it to third parties. That data is useless to each person individually. But it is the collective use of the data that gives it any value. So you are butthurt that someone is making a profit off your little insignificant contribution (face-recognition data, click history, etc...), why don't you try to sell that information on the open market and see who will buy that? No ONE! It's not worth a damn individually. It's like a grain of sand in a pile of sand... The marketers have been deceiving you since the beginning of time. Now their technology is improving and they are getting much better at what they do. The problem is not the marketers or politicians, but the uneducated individual that cannot think for himself and wants to pin the blame on the government or corporations. Take responsibility for your decisions. Propaganda and psychological manipulation is nothing new. We've had this since the beginning of time!!! If you're offended they took your data, then grow up, your data personally is worthless. there are billions more people on earth. If you're offended they are making a profit, keep in mind you yourself would not be able to make a profit by yourself with your own data... So.. it's really financially worthless to you... I am just talking about all the supposed negatives here... I have not even gotten into the positives/benefits of surveillance capitalism.
