AI was trained off of Open Source project code that was "borrowed" (or some would say stolen). What they are finding out is that AI really doesn't have a strong ability to either create or maintain code. Sure, it has a huge catalog of things it has learned that it can pull from, but unlike a human, AI isn't going to truly be able to write efficient, understandable code that is well documented and can be maintained.
