I explained to my Nana how I understood chatgpt when it came out. That it was kind of like training a kid. They hear all the "human" words and as they grow and learn you and their environment shape their understanding and then they are able to have a conversation. AI just can "learn" way faster and on much larger data sets.
Her concern was that "You're going to train it to mimic a person, but under it, there isnt a person. When you train a child, you know there is a person there. And know what to look for even as "warning signs." But with this machine, how could you ever know that it isn't just lying to you perfectly? People will believe this thing cares."
