There are two things that I learned, as a traditional artist gone-digital who has heard so many back and forths about AI but only rarely made use of it for anything. - AI art is locked behind our inextricable human nature of being sentimental. ; We are much too caught up in what it feels like to know that something had a lot of time and effort put into it (directly) to ever give AI art the time of day, and there's one art field where that matters deeply. Character design, and any art where there is a distinct focus, and thus could have been commissioned for someone specific. These kinds of art are inherently immune to the idea that AI art will take over the future and wouldn't you know it, that's where the biggest chunk of money in art comes from. - AI art is a great source of *idea generation*. ; While it is still a terrible source of reference material, it is still good for getting idea inspiration, as the aberrations as I call them, that AI tends to make, can lead to some interesting ideas if your creative mind can latch onto them well enough. I was once inspired by a particularly screwed up bipedal creature that had its wings half connected to its butt, and an extra leg that most certainly shouldn't have been there, to make a centaur type character with this odd wing design attached separately to each of its 'backs'. Another instance was what must have been a dragon that instead turned into some weird tentacle abomination. Made me think of a hybrid character where the upper half was an anthro dragon while the lower half was that of a squid. These sort of ideas are very difficult to find in natural art, as most folks would rather draw normal functional characters, and those that don't, are not often easy to find. All in all, AI art is still something that should not be treated as a final product. Even as a game dev that maybe has to cut some corners for some portraits or something, a simple note of 'yes, these were done with AI, they are meant as placeholders', would be greatly appreciated by the audience. (Might even get some volunteers to make proper artwork if you're lucky.)
