The correct way to use AI is as a teacher. You should struggle with a problem for at least an hour, trying everything you can imagine, then seek advice. Figure out the contours of your ignorance. But once you ask for help, don’t copy and paste anything. Describe your dilemma, with extreme detail and sufficient context, but in a way that is generalizable. Ask ChatGPT to help you understand the concept(s) you’re missing. It will give you examples of code and/or a list of possible reasons why your code isn’t working. once you have your answer, type your own code by hand, given your new understanding.
Sometimes, you need a dataset to test your algorithms (ex: a list of 100 emails, or a list of 1000 floats). That’s pretty much the only time where copy/paste is genuinely helpful—generating something that you could easily generate yourself but would take forever.
