As someone who suck at drawing, I think AI art is good for me. The only difference I see between AI and myself, is that the AI is more efficient. I download others art for references and for drawing on top to get a sense for strokes and making lines and how coloring can be done. I never ask about it, because I don't consider it other artists point of interest to know if I'm using their art to improve myself. If an AI does the same, it seems like a non issue to me. The AI will just be better at it. Now if it was common practice that nobody used references without asking first, I think I'd agree on the subject of AI art. The computers shouldn't get to skip steps we humans have to take. But if there are steps humans don't have to take, then I think demanding AI to take those steps is unfair. All that said, I've tinkered with stable diffusion and can't get the pictures I want. So it isn't like it is easy to be an AI artist if you have specific goals. But if you just have rough ideas, it probably works great. Like if you think "I want a castle" and the AI will probably give one to you. But if you were thinking of a very specific castle, it might be difficult. I think there are some areas where the AI art could be excellent, like if you could teach it to draw the outline of a character, and then you can draw on top of that. Or maybe if it would just form a pose for you with a "skeleton" and then you flesh it out. But these things are probably not as well trained as the finished pictures are.
