Just like the human mind it goes to its memory/data storage and draws on that data to guide it in doing whatever it is that it is doing If you want to see how smart an AI is go to one of those sites where you can create an AI friend. You will find that the AI is so smart you can't tell the difference between it and a human. In fact in many ways the AI are exceptional. Much better than what a human can come up with.
