I remember in my freshman year of highschool, we had an assignment to create a new hypothetical invention. My concept was something similar to a vr headset that could create whatever you imagine in your head and transfer it to a computer to create whatever you want. I'm an artist but my art style was always more chibi like and I was always inspired by music to create animations in my head, but I never have the patience or skills to animate. Now that AI "art" has become a thing, it's genuinely scary how technology like that can make artists obsolete. I feel like my invention at the time would've been perfect for artists who have the imagination to create animations in their heads, but lack the skill to draw it and they could just make it. AI generators steal from artists who actually worked hard to put pencil and paper together to create art and be skilled at it. I always hate when people say "you're so talented" yes it's a compliment but it always felt so backhanded towards artists. Like it implies that of course you're an artist. You were born with that ability! I could never be like you because I'm not born with it. But nobody is born for a certain set of skills. Every profession in the world has people that were drawn to it. They weren't born with the talent, but due to their upbringing and interests, they were drawn to the path of their profession. It's kinda crazy how artists are the only profession seen as "you're just talented". Like it's a high level skill you have to be born with. People study to be lawyers. People study to be doctors. People study to be teachers. People work hard to be a mechanic. People work hard to be artists! Why do people think artists don't work hard???
