The problem is, it used to be that life was about survival and reproduction. Then, as we've got better at survival over the years, philosophers have wondered what else life could be about. But we've never been REALLY forced to find the answer to that question, because we've always had work to do - first it was physical work, then that got replaced by machines, and then it was mental work. Now the mental work is being replaced by AI, we will finally be forced to confront these big existential questions head on. Maybe we focus in on emotional work? That would align with the trends towards everyone going to therapy. But we can likely solve emotional work soon too, with mood stabilising drugs, brain implants and so on. Ultimately humans won't need to work. Maybe we will just have to find a way of living where we don't feel we need to work in any traditional sense. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I think we have decades left still of getting the world into a decent shape, even with the help of AI.
