This guy is either intentionally shilling to stoke up hype for AI (his book about AI), or he's completely delusional.
Superintelligence? Get real, Meta AI eg can't even correctly summarize an article that it's supposed to summarize as its primary feature. That's not super superintelligent, that's a dislexic with ADHD. AI also doesn't perform better on other tasks, eg play chess, yes it would probably beat me - but it demonstrably is worse than conventional chess computers programmed, including ones coded on the Atari. Let's round it up with math, it can't math, like at all - that's the one things clankers were supposed to be god tier level at.
And no it has no consciousness - none at all. It doesn't even have basic understanding of anything, just a string of numbers that determines it's output. And yes the string is long, takes tons of computing, and has gotten so conveluted that it's designers can't understand it in detail - but it's nonetheless just deterministic. Looks impressive, zero substance though.
