This world is hurtling towards disaster and the main reason AI is being developed is because any nation that gains a significant margin of advantage can expect to defeat any opponent, even all opponents, almost instantaneously, either through economics or war. So long as every nation is thinking only of itself, there is no way this earth, and this species, survives in anything like a recognisable form compared to today for more than two decades, in my estimation. For example, the EU decided to function to protect its workers and citizens not only its capitalists and businesses. From that moment, opponents have sought to tear that down, notably in the UK, and now the US under Trump is hell-bent on destroying that 'bubble'. These forces control media to such an extent - now increasingly using AI - that the very workers and citizens who benefit from these protections are on the streets calling for them all to be dismantled, from human rights to clean water acts, from health and safety in the workplace to regional development grants - cut them all to save money that's only going on immigrants anyway...etc. You paint a picture where the rich elite are doing this to us but we are also culpable through our own stupidity and gullibility. It was workers who did Hitler to Germany; it was workers who did Trump to the US, and it will be British workers who do Farage to the UK. These people are ruthless when handed power. When they consume themselves and the Left gains power, we need to be ruthless too, and wrest control of this planet away from its elite capitalists once and for all, working together, working internationally, and working before their investment in AI renders ordinary working humans essentially an unnecessary burden with zero collective leverage to protect themselves.
