As an amateur artist and a programmer, I think lauding AI as the 'future' is a bit much. Currently, it's in that horrible state where artists are getting ripped off and not getting any credit for when their work are getting used as basis, and idiots are passing off AI images as actual artistry. It is not. AIgen makes for good first drafts and testruns, but it will never replace an artist, it is merely a tool. For a purely fact and logic-based application or profession, sure, an AI might be a viable worker, but for something as subjective and emotion-driven as art? Definitely not. AI can copy an artist's work, but without the human element, details get lost. As it is, most AIgen work feature the subject off into the distance, because the AI can never really capture or understand the nuances of emotion, which is very important in a field so detail-oriented as art. I do my art with pen and paper (well, vellum), but it drives me up the wall when people say that AI will replace artists. You can't program artistry and emotion.
