2:15 It’s pretty normal. Most vendors and artists are still regular people with regular day jobs. Sometimes they’re sick, or they have an emergency, or they can’t get the time off, but a friend or family member is available. There’s also been a few times when they’ve double booked. Honestly, the cons charge WAY too much for the tables and booths and they’ll sneak fines and fees in or just keep your money if you don’t show.
For an AI person it seems like a quick cash grab, and some “artists and vendors” (who have either slapped something together or they’re selling something they bought somewhere else in bulk) its pretty dire and could mean debt or eating cup noodles in the dark for a couple months, but they also rely on it being a quick cash grab. Then you have legit artists who have to sell stuff online ALL year just to afford a table, who won’t even come up off the originals.
