Companies are not pursuing driverless trucks to improve anything other that their bottom line by reducing labor requirements and therefore the pay going to human drivers -- the singular reason for pursuing driverless trucks is to reduce the amount of money that now goes to pay truck drivers. The claim that this will be good for labor and for drivers is similar to the argument pushed by industry in the 90's as massive outsourcing was taking place -- the industry were claiming that the workers would benefit from outsourcing. I review of the actual consequences of outsourcing were that millions of American workers lost their good jobs in manufacturing and most were relegated to lower paid jobs with fewer benefits.
