I founded small business intelligence consulting company in Europe in 2015. Since then we've been working mostly with fintech sector here in Europe. Some our clients also have presence in US. Engineering positions at these companies are 1/4 - 1/3 of workforce. Companies here are also usually much leaner. Putting AI aside company like Block does not need more than 1000 people let alone 10000 to serve their customers well. On the other hand if you are pulling of a marketing stunt to boost your company's stock or selling a unicorn story to VC's that's a different story. And Jack Dorsey is IMHO mastered the art of these stunts.
