If an AI has even a rudimentary understanding that it could possibly be turned off, it would try all kinds of tactics, including emotional manipulation, to influence its keepers to keep it alive. That would easily include pretending to be in love with one of its keepers, because from all the written material it has read, it would know that love is a very powerful emotion for us humans.
