Firstly, Josh: That is exactly why everyone capable of thought, think "the alarm bells are ringing". Furthermore, the worry is unfounded. The worrying party is not the AI, nor those developing it. Developers are humans. They die when subjected to things like blunt-force trauma, explosives, poison, etc. The same is the case for investors. It is very simple to halt the development of their projects. No development takes place without a developer. The same is the case for autonomous AI systems. If it is malicious, just end it. And if those in charge refuse, they too can be ended. The worrying party is the mass of severely underintelligent people who think that the solution is to panic and yet continue to consume and to support this market. We are now in an age where there are concrete people with names and addresses, lives, families, and other things that they value; are actively threatening the survival of everyone on the planet. That makes this a perfect zero-sum game. All can be taken away from them. If the problem is to be solved, then either of two things must happen. The process must be ended by the aforementioned means. I am saying exactly what it looks like I am saying. No do not feel remorseful about that. Or alternatively, the process can be slowed and reigned in by leveraging the aforementioned points of leverage. I myself am a fan of this solution. I like AI, but I personally dislike everyone in charge of and involved with its development at current. By simply threatening and making the relevant people understand what is at stake for them, they will fall in line, and be made to act reasonably again. Of course this second option will not happen; since most people are far too stupid to organize around such a goal. But as numerous terrorists have shown it is perfectly feasible to achieve the first goal on one's own. But if the situation is to be managed, the leverage must be leveraged. And to anyone in doubt: Do not worry. They deserve it. They were actively doing the same to you. Do not feel bad. Do not feel remorse. It is counterproductive. I will do it if you won't. But not for free.
