I am disabled, second class out of three. Am I an artist? I think I'm just a humble photographer who has had the good fortune to hold some exhibitions. I started with analogue photography and lived through the whole digital revolution and then the mirrorless revolution. In both cases, I was an early adopter. I have to say, I love the modern system that allows me to walk around without a tripod and with a backpack weighing 5–6 kg, rather than over 20 kg as in the analogue era. I love the small green rectangle that can lock onto a bird in flight like the smart targeting systems in sci-fi movies. However, looking at what is happening, I really don't like AI. OK, everyone takes inspiration from someone. Many landscape photographers look to Ansel Adams for inspiration, and many nature photographers take inspiration from National Geographic or the work of Sir David Attenborough. But it's still your own work, your own learning, your own back pain, your own blisters, and sometimes being bitten by all kinds of bugs or getting frostbite. It's also saving to have money for travels. Sometimes it means putting yourself in very real danger. Then some little bugger comes along, cobbles together a few words and calls it "art"? On an app made by stealing a bazillion hard-made photos? Just no! I totally support the use of Nightshade and all similar apps. Speaking more about disabled artists... Although I am disabled, my disability is invisible and my body is functional. Sometimes it is more able than the bodies of most people my age. But I have friends with brains that are far more stable than mine, but who are physically disabled. People who paint beautiful pictures using only their feet. Believe me, they hate Ai even more than I do, and they hate that "argument" that "disabled artists need Ai".
