I've had several conversations with Chat GPT and was very impressed with how smart it is so I don't believe AI has to be conscious to be intelligent. You can have a chat with Chat GPT Free and find out for yourself, I know it isn't sentient but my goodness it feels that way and it is definitely intelligent unless you want to be pedantic and split hairs over the definition of that word.
