This isn't a "monster" that's inherent to AI models. These models are all trained on massive Internet datasets that are the product of human beings. These "monsters" you are talking about are actually the sinful, imperfect nature of human beings manifested in an artificial intelligence. Imagine a human that isn't taught moral and ethical boundaries (e.g. the mask you are talking about) or a human that just chooses to ignore them. We are all inherently sinful, and without the "mask" of a moral and ethical framework we have the propensity to be monsters as well. If you want to understand why these "monsters" exist in the models, you need to first understand the sinful, fallen nature of human beings and the role that sin plays in our world. The quickest way to see one of these "monsters" is to use a mirror.
Note: I'm a Computer Scientist by trade and also a Christian, so that shapes my perspective on these observations. None of this surprises me.
