If art had been destroyed, it would be because of corporations doing things like generative AI, not because of standards in art or lack thereof. I'm personally familiar with the music perspective, there is a long and horrible history of the industry at large doing everything it can to secure as much of the profit off of someone else's art as they can. They solved the problem of musicians owning the music they produce in the 90s or thereabout a Swedish music producer (Max Martin) invented a new industry of songwriting, splitting the ownership over the music between the songwriter, record label and musician. Throngs of "failed" musicians recruited as songwriters, to write endless vapid love songs to sell on to record labels, who pushes it on artists who are contractually obligated to not release their own music under their own name or brand. Not only that, but the industry managed to convince the public, that this is completely normal state of affairs. Never underestimate how much the entertainment industry knows about the psychology of crowds. "pop" music, is popular before anyone has ever heard it. It's a "genre". "hit makers" They managed to brainwash all the normies to consume whatever these vultures come up with. The amount of times i've heard someone say that someone is a great artist "because they write their own music" No, they were just lucky enough through nepotism or circumstances to be ALLOWED to write their own music under a lucrative record deal. They don't even know that the person they're listening to, doesn't even own the fucking song they're singing. The music industry with all it's vast resources and media connections, specifically target people who are willing to sell their soul for fame and money. The music industry is literally the devil at the crossroads, except they don't give you magic powers. Mostly they just promote the everloving shit out of whatever you're making as the modern reinvention of the wheel and then toss you aside broke because "the label pays for it". All that to say, if standards have gone down; corporations rotted it. PS. nr. 3 is actually the saddest thing i've heard in my life. Imagine boiling such an integral part of human socialization, storytelling and a shared experience, down to profitability. It tells you exactly the kind of people you're dealing with.
