If you think about it, AI came out of everything us humans have every written and put in digital format in any way, so its really the essence of humanity.. Soon enough we will learn about the true nature of humanity..For me, empathy is an essential part of humanity, even if it's missing in some, but overall i think most people have empathy to various degrees.. So I really am hopeful that what Ian Banks called the minds will feel empathy towards us and help us where we are not able to help ourselves and teach us how to coexist with something far smarter than any and all of us and accept the opportunity to gain knowledge about the universe and everything if we stop rebelling against the idea of a smarter intelligence being around us... (hint hint, there have been many smarter than us for far longer than we can even imagine, looking up in the sky should make that stupidly obvious to anyone, but thats just my humble opinion..The smartest kid on the block idea has always made me laugh out loud.. its kinda cute we think so tbh..making a conclusion that contradicts all available evidence, talk about the nature of humanity lol
