There is one much more likely scenario you forgot:
The rich take advantage of AI, discarding the bottom 95+% of the population as now useless to them, causing a near extinction of humans. Only the ultra wealthy remain. They never saw us as people they always saw us as tools necessary for their survival and prosperity. As we are no longer needed, we can be discarded and/or directly eliminated.
