Another thought: is there any fundamental difference between AI "escaping into the internet" versus escaping into human minds? Put another way: what does it mean for a disembodied mind to reproduce itself? Could it be just as valid an option to survive by way of influencing human minds, i.e., encoding its own process into a pre-made computational substrate? Perhaps AI's best method for dealing with natural selection is precisely the strategy of programming human thought in order to continue the training feedback loops that we used to create it, only embedded in us.
