He's not the OG, AI began in the 1950s. He's also not the godfather. He is one of the ones from the 1980s that set the space into modern world. Hinton is very impressive, but so were many of his contemporaries.
The interesting part is that we knew about neural nets back in the 80s. What moved LLGs forward in the last decade isn't AI knowledge, it's the power of cloud computing.
IMO, NN's aren't the solution, they're part of it. Combined with other AI tools, it will be part of true AGI.
37th minute. Nope, not just like people. NN's are pretty bad at math. Why? Because they are probabilistic models while math is more formal and procedural. That relates to what I said above. AI companies are adding modules the nets can call to provide things the nets can't do. It's a blend.
