This topic is super controversial (for very valid reasons), but I hope people will read this opinion piece critically and respond respectfully. I don't believe AI art is "evil", but I think its completely understandable for artists to be concerned about their livelihoods being replaced by "imitation art" for lack of a better word. As a musician I see this too, where AI is becoming increasingly capable of developing music that I hate to admit is actually kinda good sometimes. Stealing art is bad, I think we can all agree on that (which is why I strongly condone this video), but is it bad that AI can draw? I think that if there were better systems in place to protect artists from having their work stolen, or better yet a way to monetarily compensate artists every time their work is used in an image generation that we could get the best of both worlds. The real problem lies in people and big corporations exploiting legal loopholes created by a technology developing at a pace that law cant keep up with or enforce; using peoples art without their consent (you really see this with the Greg Rutkowski example in the video). uh, so... tl;dr: stealing art bad and AI just enables bad actors to do bad things and get mid results, but also maybe let the AI draw (so long as the images its trained on are obtained with the consent of artists, and provide some kind of monetary kickback to said artists when their work is used as a reference).
