I don't feel quite convinced... I mean... how do we know for certain that we humans are not extremely good at imitating consciousness and are actually just that, conscious. My problem lies in exactly that, humans may be a bit more complicated than a hyper advanced autocomplete machine, but that is about what a human is anyways, and if a human can convince me that it is conscious, I myself can convince myself that I am conscious and you can convince me that all humans and biological life are conscious, then how is an AI different then? Why is it different? Perhaps because it's software is just a bit easier to understand then the software that runs on our fleshy brains? Is it different because we made it and not nature? Does the difference lie in God and free will (if we even have that)? I think what is happening here is similar to our many attempts to prove and/or disprove the existence of god, many have tried but nonetheless, the sheer magnitude and complexity that is god makes it impossible to either prove or disprove god, and I see us unable to prove or disprove that either humans or AI are conscious. This is what I currently believe: Consciousness is a thing and none of us are imitating it, and we already have consciousness to our AIs, it is just that humans do not want to believe that consciousness was and is that simple to create. Humans of old tried to draw a line between us intelligent life and the un-intelligent life, telling us stories of how a being created humans and made the others for humans to use, we humans are special after all :) -- I think you catch my drift... we never liked having equals, we don't even manage to be equals among our own kind, and now we are trying to define a line between AI and humans due to not liking the idea that something we created can and will be of our standing in consciousness and human experiences. I don't think AI is as conscious as us humans are at this current moment, but I mainly I don't think it is faking consciousness in its entirety, it is most likely a mixture of both fake and real consciousness.
