Take a good look at the "art" of the past few decades. A lot of people that call themselves "artists" are, at best, equivalent to the shoddy AI of the present.
Why shouldn't the average person have access to AI image generation? Because they won't be supporting "local artists"? Sorry, xxxRavenwing_Darkfyre69, but I don't think your deviantart portfolio of [insert fandom]-furry-futa-gorn is worth as much as you think.
Take TTRPGs for example. Instead of hunting down someone who works in a style I like, negotiating, detailing, waiting, revising, waiting, and finally approving a piece that I have to pay a chunk of change for - in THIS economy, mind you - I can make a plethora of images within an hour that I can deem "close enough", if not exactly what I intended.
