I'm surprised to hear her downplay the nefariousness of these big players in the AI field.
They have concrete uses for huge data centers even without reaching that holy grail of AGI: surveillance, marketing and the fragmentation of media down to the creation of a curated individual reality for every consumer.
Dragging the whole economy into their bubble by tying pensions and university funds in their investments is intentional: the 2008 financial crisis taught them the importance of becoming 'too big to fail'.
