You bring up photography. To me, AI is like a machine aproximation of a dream. And generating an image would indeed be like taking a picture of that dream after nudging it in some direction. It's not creation, it's witnessing. It can involve work, and even creativity and expertise, to varying degrees, but it doesn't really require it.
There's also already a category of art called "algorithmic art"
Algorithmic art is things like setting up a pendulum and tracing its trajectory with splaters of paint from a bucket, or like series of geometrical equations that yield a set of patterns. And algorithmic art is art in terms of discovering and exploring the method, and in terms of having a finished product to testify to the journey, but it's not art in the sense that you don't create the specific piece. You merely witness it appearing out of the machine you set in motion. I believe that has a lot in common with generative AI.
