Here's the thing Derek. You're extraordinarily harsh on the idea of using AI to assist in legal work. But in the real world, people just cannot afford the exorbitant legal fees you and all your colleagues charge. Every hour of every day, someone has to make the impossible decision of whether to prosecute for unjust fines they've been forced to pay, wage theft, and all manner of other illegal and unfair activities, given the legal fees they pay will potentially dwarf the amount they expect to recoup. And many have to defend themselves from unjust lawsuits. This is why people end up representing themselves. People around the world are desperate for an alternative, and AI gives them a glimmer of hope. The legal profession, you included, are a mixture of fearful, amused and enraged by the prospect. The rest of us are crying out for it.
