I agree with your point, but i just want to note on the topic of "is it author's moral duty if they can't pay to an artist to not create anything at all" that like one of the most popular analog horror, the one that arguably populirized the whole niche in recent years, The Mandela Catalogue, started as barebones infographics made on a phone, literally. With such a strong idea they just didn't need the AI. Like analog horror is literally THE medium for people to let their creativity shine even if they aren't good artists, it even encourages you to NOT make it look that good. Other popular projects literally have power point presentations, have you seen silly drawing in The Monument Mythos? And it's my personal favorite. I beleive even if they made something not as visually impressive as it might've been, it'd still be THEIR art, and i would value campy bad photoshop made by a person over impressive art that was made by AI
