I started in the computer (IT) industry 61 years ago. The industry invents terminology to sell products, to convince you that a simple product is ''revolutionary''. The term ''artificial intelligence (AI)'' is a sales slogan to deliberately mislead you, because the industry knows that you assume that the word ''intelligence'' means human intelligence. But 'intelligence' in 'AI' is not human intelligence. Therefore, the word ''artificial'' is redundant and the term ''artificial intelligence (AI)'' has no meaning. So-called AI systems are simply systems using software programmes written by programmers, to come to logical decisions defined by them. Such decisions were previously made by human users, and so the public lazily assume that the new software programmes are somehow 'intelligent'. In fact, 'to be intelligent' means 'to select from among', and computers are very good at making logical selections of objects, provided these obects and the logic have been previously defined and categorised by programmers and users. This is not ''artificial intelligence'', it is simply computer assisted decision making.
