I think consciousness is a construct anyways. Maybe the cats or dogs we think we own, are wondering if their humans are conscious. I think that the appearance of consciousness IS consciousness. In other words, "If it quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck." If it gets to the point where I don't know that the machine hypothetically isn't conscious, but I fullheartefly believe it IS, then that's all that matters to me. If I personally perceive the robot as human because it's that advanced, then human it is. People believe in god(s) without knowing for sure if they exist. It's not as different as many would imply.
