This last semester, I was in a course where we had to review our fellow classmates' work, to both demonstrate we understood how to write proper journal articles and also had a grasp on the peer review process. It was a nightmare, I was able to clock so many papers as having been written with AI, quite a few weren't even edited to try and hide it. On the flip side, I felt really bad for one of my classmates who is an older student and legitimately (and properly) uses a lot of Em Dashes, totally unaware that any AI detection program would flag their work for that. Teachers using AI though? Equally unacceptable, and I can absolutely see some students in the near future going for class action lawsuits over this, especially since most universities have a hard-no policy on AI use for institutional data reasons.
