I thought the point of this technology was to take dull, dirty, and dangerous jobs. I dunno, this kind of sounds like the ideal use case - a dull/repetitive job with long hours that requires constant awareness of the surroundings to prevent a dangerous scenarios. I don't think the tech is there yet, but honestly I don't fault them for trying. The whole trying to tie it to the Industrial Revolution by how it "hurt the working man" bit feels hollow too, because that industrialization increased the average person's standard of living exponentially. Things that once belonged only to the rich became something the common man could actually afford. Heck, we literally live in a world benefitting from that Industrial Revolution... so I'm not sure why this is bad.
I mean, I don't feel bad for all the telephone operators who lost their jobs to automated dialing, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to go back to it.
