A lot of the AI 'artists' I've run into are just cripplingly down on themselves. The vast majority of them *could* learn to create art without AI, but they don't believe it. They're afraid of making crappy things, but all artists create crap before they create stuff that's good - and still have the occasional crap on the canvas, you just file those away as learning =D
