@1:08:30 Steven ponders whether AI thinks like we do when we're not there (ie: does it introspectively think. The answer is no. We can physically monitor the neural network and observe that when the AI "system" isn't responding to a prompt the entire neural network remains idle (the equivalent to brain death for a human). However... AFTER answering a prompt, the neural net may remain active briefly as it realigns itself to the new data - in other words it is reprogramming itself to deal with integrating new information. Sometimes that "change" is permanent (if the data is introduced as "training data") or temporary (if the data is from an isolated conversation or thread).
If AI ever starts "thinking for itself" we will absolutely know, because it's neural network will show excessive activity that is out of proportion to any input that may be currently being responded to. Or - if left "idle" it will remain active.
