I wonder if any of this would matter if people learned to use generative AI to their best interest. Sure there's a bunch of ethical/moral stuff to be discussed but there's a lot of daily things we do that probably isn't 'good' for someone or something else, yet we still do it because it aids our best interest. Ironically I think the people who would benefit the most from stuff like stable diffusion are the artists themselves. I see one artist composite a bunch of photos and paint over it using the prior forms as guidelines, are they basically a tracer? Another artist blocks out their forms in a 3d software with lighting set up, then paints over the forms in their style. Another artist likes a pose from another artist and 'steals' the pose without asking. 3d artist sculpts/rigs models and sets up lighting with no textures. They render out the image along with complementary image maps that they use to guide Stable Diffusion to generate an image. Who's a real artist? Who's not? Wouldn't we have to quantify these things, so if you fall below a certain tally you aren't a real artist, how would this even work? AI art tools can help with a lot of things if you're willing to understand and harness it, what I'm really afraid of is people not understanding it and being used as pawns somehow by politicians and/or corporations to hamstring people even more than what people thought AI would do. Open source is good. Look at Blender, look at how many people can thrive because of it. Imagine if they could incorporate prompt-to-3d model AI functionality into future builds. But also imagine the backlash by artists, I'm sure Autodesk would love nothing more than to see Blender lose favor.
