I've been on a Waymo before and we were coming up to an actual active crime scene. The car did continue towards the yellow tape, but there was a police car there blocking the way. It took the car a couple of minutes to find another route. That and we called their customer service about the car not recognizing the crime scene. Waymo does have it flaws, but I'm sure they will improve.
