I think we're fighting the wrong thing. The problem isn't AI, it's the system that makes AI into cancer. AI is actually a great tool, like for Angel Engine, for which you would otherwise require much more risk and money. It can enable smaller creators to experiment with ideas and tell their stories in a more compelling way without requiring a massive budget and sacrifice. It can enable a poor overworked animator to work 5 hours a day instead of 12 while producing the same output. I don't see how these things are bad. What we should be fighting against is corporate greed and unregulated capitalism. Actually, it's even better to fight FOR something. We should be demanding that politicians actually do their jobs, that they create legislation that reduced working hours for jobs affected by AI. If a greedy corpo legally can't make animators work more than 5 hours, they won't be able to fire as many people. We should be demanding that the rich are properly taxed in order to finance universal basic income, education, healthcare. We should be demanding a steep AI tax to help support those that lost their jobs because of it. AI itself isn't bad. A disembodied AI could never produce rich art that speaks to people just because it lacks the human perspective. Maybe some day, an embodied AI will, but at that point that AI could be argued to be kinda human. And people will always choose something that speaks to them on a human level over averaged slop. So let's focus our energy to grow a fair labour movement and change the system. It is time.
