Comment #2. My apologies. At some point I will stop commenting, go outside, and swim with dolphins or something.
Mr. Minhaj wants robot tech to benefit him by doing his laundry. But simple, mundane burdens like that are not the cause of personal pain and life struggles. A laundry robot won't get you affordable healthcare and housing, pay you a sustainable salary with enough surplus to save for retirement, provide safe and excellent schools for our kids, and so forth.
Robots can help address our foundational social problems, but not by doing our laundry for us. Robot-assisted surgery can be safer and cheaper; robotic 3D printers can build affordable, energy-efficient housing; robots can monitor and repair the undersea cable systems that the internet relies on; etc.
Will robots take our jobs? As Dr. Tyson expressed, yes - and they will create space for new jobs. Would you rather hammer roof tiles under the hot sun, or design, program and manage the robots that do so?
