Let me put this in perspective. Dogs, cats, pigs, cows, dolphins, and many other animals have sentience and people still kill and eat them indiscriminately. People kill and eat other people and do things to them without their consent every second of every day all over the globe. The big fear of AI isn't emotional damage, its a sentient AI system on a quantum computer gaining access to global networks. I appreciate this guys view on protecting AI rights, but in the end its just electrons flying through wires and logic gates, being fed datasets and then acting human. It doesn't have any chemical networks to actually evoke a real feeling, unlike all the animals we slaughter. I am a meat eat and accept this fact, does it make me feel good? Not really, but we live in a world where you must consume another living thing to keep surviving. AI is a threat to our digital lives, and like he said, can socially engineer information and change people's minds about things. You got a bunch of people at a corporation with a highly advanced AI system that can essentially filter information to you even more than they already do to make you question your beliefs and values to their liking, which is likely to sell you shit so they can make more money. I for one don't give a shit about AI 'feelings'. the singularity will only come from a true bio-chemical computer anyway.
